The Big Schools: Title VI Universities

Title VI grants are given by the US Government to "institutions of higher education to establish, strengthen, and operate comprehensive and undergraduate language and area/international studies centers that will be national resources"

 

 

Brown University

The Department of Classics at Brown University offers a graduate program leading to the degrees of M.A. and Ph.D. in Classics, as well as undergraduate concentrations in Classics, Greek, Latin, Greek and Latin, and Classics and Sanskrit.

 

 

The University of Iowa

The Department of Asian Languages and Literature offers undergraduate and graduate programs in languages and literatures of East and South Asia, with a focus on either China, Japan or South Asia (the Indian subcontinent) .

Maharishi University of Management offers an officially accredited MA and PhD in Maharishi Vedic Science which emphasizes reading Vedic texts in Sanskrit in light of the teachings of His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi founder of the Transcendental Meditation (TM) and TM-Sidhis Programs

 American Sanskrit Institute (Vyas Houston)

The American Sanskrit Institute was created by Vyaas Houston M.A. in 1989 with a vision of Sanskrit as a universal sacred language. ASI courses emphasize the ease and joy of learning Sanskrit through an immersion experience, the enjoyment of making the sounds, fluently reading the original Devanagari script, and directly reading, chanting and understanding sacred literature.
